What is biodynamic craniosacral therapy?
Biodynamic craniosacral therapy is a gentle touch modality that works directly with the autonomic nervous system to unwind both acute and chronic patterns of tension held in the body, alleviating symptoms of pain and stress as traumatic charge is slowly released from the system. Rooted in the osteopathic tradition, craniosacral work orients holistically to the mind-body system through techniques of finely attuned listening and deep stillness, allowing the body to access the resources needed to ignite healing processes as the practitioner tracks changes in the client's system.
Why is this therapy an effective somatic approach for healing trauma?
The two fundamental principles that lay at the core of this work are establishing a sense of safety and connection through a listening touch that is guided by the client's physiology rather than introducing any force into their system.
Through this depth of listening, biodynamic craniosacral work is able to gently engage with a system that is highly sensitive and defensive from having to endure various forms of trauma be it abuse, injuries, medical procedures, birth complications or childhood neglect. The practitioner is trained in tracking fluctuations in the nervous system of the client so if anything possibly triggering or activating arises, she is able to attend to the system in a slow, well-paced manner while remaining in connection. Due to the profoundly gentle and innately-guided nature of this work, moments of overwhelm are rare. What does craniosacral therapy help heal?
Craniosacral therapy helps to discharge shock in the system from any type of physical or psychological traumatic event whether it was from a few days ago or many decades ago. As unresolved traumatic charge accumulates in the body, our fascial system must work very hard at keeping harmony in the body at the expense of creating tensile holding patterns that can lead to all types of painful symptoms.
